Chapman University and P.U.S.D. Leadership University
Chapman University and P.U.S.D. Leadership University are providing educators with an opportunity to complete the required graduate course work to apply towards an Arizona Principal Certificate. All courses are open to educators from other school districts.
Courses are offered monthly at sites throughout the Peoria Unified School District on three consecutive Friday - Saturday weekends. A logged 6 hour outside project is required to complete 45 contact hours. Fridays: 4:30 pm - 9:30 pm Saturdays:8:00 am - 4:00 pm.
The required 30 hours can be completed through these course offerings.

Course Content and Approach
All courses meet the criteria required for the Arizona Principal Certificate. It is recommended that each student verify with the Arizona Department of Education eligibility for previous course work prior to enrolling in a class.
Instructors are highly qualified practicing administrators utilizing "hands-on" approaches. "Hands-on" strategies include: in-basket situations, role playing, interviewing, conferencing, discipline, P.R. , clinical supervision, budgeting, school law and athletic programs and activities.
Arizona Principal Certificate
Requirements for Arizona Principal Certificate
- Master's degree
- Passing score on the professional knowledge portion of the AAPA Exam
- Passing score on the performance portion of the AAPE Exam
- 3 years of verified teaching experience in grades PreK-12
- ** Completion of courses in educational administration for principals from an accredited institution including at least 30 graduate semester hours of educational administration courses
- ** Practicum as a principal from an accredited institution
* This is not a Master's Degree Program.
Note: These credits are professional development units that are not part of a degree program but instead are primarily used for professional advancement (such as salary increment steps and recertification.) Students should seek approval of appropriate district or college officials before enrolling in these courses to satisfy any degree, state credential, or local school district requirements. State licensing departments vary regarding their criteria for credit acceptance, and some states may not accept credit from universities that are located outside the state.
